Ways to give

The fastest way to make an impact is to make a gift online by credit card. An official tax receipt will be issued under the cardholder’s name. With online giving, you can make a one-time gift or become a monthly donor. Monthly donations create additional impact by providing consistent and sustainable support.

Please address your cheque to Vancity Community Foundation. If your donation is intended for one of our Community Advised Funds, Donor Advised Funds or Collective Impact Funds, kindly include a note in the memo specifying the fund name. Cheques may be addressed to:

Vancity Community Foundation

Vancity members can give directly through online banking. Please log into your account, go to “Pay Bills” and select “VCF Donation Form” from the left sidebar. Then, choose your fund from the dropdown menu and follow the prompts to complete your donation.

A gift of appreciated securities is one of the most tax effective ways to give. Eligible securities include publicly listed stocks, bonds, mutual fund units or exchange traded funds on approved stock exchanges in Canada and internationally. There is beneficial tax treatment of these gifts because they are exempt from capital gains tax. You can learn more about this option in this Community Foundations of Canada Fact Sheet (PDF).  Please contact us to initiate a gift of securities.

Including a charitable gift in your will is a meaningful way to support community organizations. Whether it’s a specific sum, a particular asset or a percentage from your estate, your commitment will make an impact beyond your lifetime.

You may choose to leave a gift directly to VCF to support the greatest community need, or create a Legacy Fund to support the charities and causes you are most passionate about. There are several benefits to giving this way:

  • Simplicity in giving: Making a planned gift is straightforward. You can include Vancity Community Foundation (VCF) in your will by adding a clause that details your intentions or designates VCF as a beneficiary.
  • Financial management: A bequest to a registered charity, such as VCF, enables your estate to receive a tax receipt for the full value of your gift.
  • Flexibility in planning (legacy funds): A bequest allows you to retain full control and use of your assets during your lifetime. If you choose to leave a gift through a legacy fund, you may establish a fund now and name the fund in your will, ensuring your wishes are honored. A bequest can activate your own legacy fund or support broader issue areas by supporting VCF priorities and/or Collective Impact Funds. If your circumstances change, you can update your preferences with us at any time, saving you the potential costs associated with legal updates.
